Understanding High Chrome White Iron

Most of the major pump parts including impeller, throat bush, volute liner, frame plate liner insert, etc are made of high chrome white iron, which follow the standard of ASTM A532 Class III. It is excellent for use in transporting of abrasive mediums.

The high chromium cast iron is a series of chromium wear resistant cast iron with different chromium content, which currently is the most widely wear resistant material. The microstructures of the high chrome cast iron is mainly composed of high strength, high hardness of martensitic matrix and hard carbides. The hardness of the alloy carbides can up to 1300 to 1800 HV. These hard carbides are attached to the martensitic matrix, which makes macro-hardness of the material reach 56 - 64 HRC, even up to 67 HRC. So the high chromium cast iron shows high wear resistance in delivering slurry contained hard solids particles. The representative of the high chromium cast is Alloy M05 and M07, meanwhile for specific application they derive the Alloy M49 and M33 with excellent corrosion resistance, and M12 and M61 with higher wear resistance etc.

High Chrome Alloy M05 material is very popular used for the slurry pump parts, it is a wear resistant white iron that offer excellent performance under erosive condition. The alloy can be effectively used in a wide range of slurry types. The high wear resistance of alloy M05 is provided by the presence of hard carbides within its microstructures. Alloy M05 is particularly suited to applications where mild corrosive resistance, as well as erosive resistance is required.
